People age. Some age well; others, not. Hustlers try to profit off of the latter.

Longevity, as defined by living a nice long healthy life, one that is free of disease and full of vigor, remaining fit and flexible well beyond 80, can only come about the old fashioned way. You have to earn it.

How to achieve longevity? A judicious diet, vigorous exercise and adequate sleep will take you a long way. Avoiding excess alcohol, tobacco products and empty calories gets you further. If you play your cards right, luck becomes the only variable.

This morning I heard a news report on NPR which reminded me of where my true interests lie; what really matters.

The report: Drinking cola lowers sperm counts!

Basically one of the driving factors behind Michelle and I getting involved with the web, and more specifically, the blog, is simply a desire to get to the bottom of this food issue. We explore beyond the line of crap we were all sold, the marketing which resulted in us all eating poison rather than food. Simply put: We look at what is in the food and how not to eat it. This website is an avenue to express thought on that subject.

The New Century

So unlike the old century…

 These days, one could say that fast food is Satan’s way of distracting all of us from making dinner. It is quite amazing, when you stop to think about it, instead of focusing our attention and efforts on buying, preparing and eating the best possible food our incomes can afford, we settle for fast, convenient, virtually tasteless, totally unhealthy processed foods. We eat frozen prepared meals or crap in a bag from the local fast food chains in order to save time so that we can…what—–watch American Idol on TV?

  That makes absolutely no sense. And, that is why Michelle and I move to a different beat. Years ago, we decided to make food preparation a major part of our lives. Michelle’s passion is researching nutritional information and then sourcing those foods which provide us the most nutritional bang per calorie. In general we eat fresh whole food, pretty much in the same state that nature made it, avoiding refined sugars like high fructose corn syrup, completely shunning preservatives like Sodium sorbate amongst other things,  and most definitely forsaking the Drive-Thru.

 The transition from spending evenings on the watching television or typing on the computer to nights spent standing at the kitchen counter, chopping vegetables, sauteing onions, stirring sauces and cleaning all those extra dishes is no easy task. Michelle does most of the work, has most of the knowledge; I help as best I can. Getting here took us the better part of the past decade. But, the food we eat really is the best ever!

Of course, one look at this and then the calender tells me that we’ve already had more than enough of winter. But, then again, I sort of like the cold,  and I love the snow. In that, I know I am not alone.
